SIPA DEVELOPS THE NEW CONTAINER FOR POWER PLUS

A new energy drink from Thai Beverage, the famous producer of Thailand’s Chang Beer

This new energy drink with entirely SIPA-designed packaging was launched with a great deal of promotion for the 25th Southeast Asian Games held in Vientiane, Laos – the most important sports event in Southeast Asia. And Power Plus was on hand as one of the Games’ main sponsors.
This new product will compete with other energy drinks already famous in Asia and around the world, such as RedBull, M-Max by Osotspa and Gatorade. Its producer, Thai Beverage Plc, has already made major investments to promote the product on the market and is certain to make Power Plus the number two selling sports drink in SEA by 2012.
The 325ml hot fill bottle was designed in cooperation with SIPA’s Hanghzhou, China (Sipa Machinery Hanghzhou) branch due to its logistical proximity to the area where Thai Beverage works. The development of a container usually follows a step-by-step process. It starts with a client brief, goes through subsequent phases and leads to the bottle with all its aesthetic and functional aspects.
The first phase entails defining a concept using free-hand sketching – the most open phase of the project. Next comes brainstorming to broaden and define the aesthetic possibilities. Later 2D representations and 3D rendering is used to refine the details until an actual technical drawing is created.
The Power Plus case was significant. The skill of SMH’s designers made it possible to go straight from the sketch phase to prototyping: the client was immediately won over by the interpretation of his brief. The effectiveness right from the first phases, the ability to transfer the brief into shapes and the complete knowledge of all technical and manufacturing aspects of the bottle, let SIPA greatly reduce development times and get the bottle on the market quickly, fully achieving what had been scheduled during brainstorming.
SIPA manufactured the test mould and blowing moulds for the SIPA SFL linear blowmoulders installed at a Thai converter, a partner of Thai bev that manufactures the containers.
