Pharmaceutical

Products: very small bottle sizes can be obtained through injection process such as:
• Test tubes
• Little jars for test
Such containers are generally sterilized by gamma rays otherwise they have to withstand a thermal processing in a closed retort at temperature of 121°C for 20 minutes.
PET is not suitable for retortable containers, for this reason the use of OPP containers is more common due to its high temperature resistance.
Type of neck finishes may be various and diversified depending on the final use of containers ( e.g. physiological solution for phleboclysis etc.)

Bottles can require:
• Vacuum resistance
• Light barrier
• Oxygen barrier

Any special container for this category requires a dedicated production technology.
Between the complete available range of technologies, SIPA can select the most appropriate one for the specific container: ECS integrated technology, SFL and SFR linear and rotary blowmolders.
Depalletizers and palletisers (GENIUS) dedicated to the Pharmaceutical industries are available as well as robotized handling solutions.
A full range of complimentary packing machines complete the ‘Dry End’ including casing/uncasing machines, carton erectors, carton sealers and partitions inserters.
With the latest innovative conveyor systems, Sipa Berchi provide complete solutions for every kind of container, cans, cartons, crates and shrink wrapped packs.

Special containers

Polypropylene Containers: PP is an interesting resin thanks to its peculiar features: water barrier, high temperature resistance and chemical inertia. For this reason, PP can access market where PET is not indicated. Thanks to its high temperature resistance, PP is also highly suitable when high hot filling temperature is required or steam sterilization (at 121°C) is needed e.g. medical and pharmaceutical and baby food industries. It is also suitable for applications requiring high humidity barrier performances, e.g. powder and soluble food. Finally, due to its chemical resistance, PP is particularly suitable for home care and paint applications. Co-operation with important resins producers allows SIPA to improve the process of PP resin reaching a wider process window (which is for PP very narrow) enhancing bottle aesthetic (in terms of transparency), material distribution and quality consistency.
Oval Container: means a container with different base length and width. It can be centered neck or off-centered neck. The technological challenge in the production of the oval containers is to achieve a uniform material distribution all around the bottle. The technology required to compensate the different radial stretching ratio on the short and long sides of the bottle makes use of a preferential heating oven equipped with infrared lamps dedicated to reheat the preforms asymmetrically: in the oven the preforms do not rotate, so the re-heating is concentrated in two opposite sides. Some containers require also the thread to be oriented, as special closures shall be applied; it is the case of many bottle for detergents, equipped with trigger sprayer that shall be oriented in the direction of the short side. In order to give the thread the proper position vs. the bottle, the machine producing the container is equipped with a special system to orient the preforms in the correct position before entering the preferential heating oven.
