SEVEN BOTTLING LINES FOR UNIVERSAL ROBINA CORPORATION

The collaboration between SIPA and the Philippine leader in the tea market.

SIPA, a leading Italian company in the development of packaging solutions, has consolidated its collaboration with Universal Robina Corporation, part of the J.G. Summit Holding Group. URC, leader in the food sector, has recently entered into the beverage market: thanks to the far-sightedness of its management and making use of SIPA skill and technology, it launched the C2 brand, which in a short period of time reached an important market share for hot filled products in the Philippine. The two companies collaborated from the start in the choice of the most suitable technology, the most appropriate process and most competitive packaging in order to obtain high performance and highly flexible lines. In particular, the packaging has been studied to give an economic advantage thanks to a container weight reduction program: from the traditional 32 grams of the 500 ml hot fill container to the current 26 grams. Therefore, seven ECS FX 20/80 1-step systems have been supplied, optimised for hot fill and light weight, equipped with a storage silo, bottle aligning device and air conveyors, hot filling monoblock, caps sterilisation area, cooling tunnel, labelling device and cartoning machine. In order to improve plant performance, safeguarding flexibility in the production of different containers, each production line has been dedicated to just one format, with the possibility to quickly change the type of product, label and cap. URC??s technological innovation has led the company to play a strategic market position in the Philippine ready to drink market. URC has already given a hint regarding the possibility of further expansion in the beverage ambit by opening up to new countries in South-East Asia and bottling different and more widely distributed products, such as water. ??There are different reasons ?? comments David J. Lim, J.G. Summit Corporation Project Manager - to why we chose SIPA and their 1-step technology instead of the traditional 2-step technology. First of all, the fact that blowing takes place immediately after injection, so reducing energy consumption. Secondly, the possibility to pass to filling after blowing, so minimising the risk of contamination was significant. Moreover, the support given to use in all phases was exemplary: from the development of the bottle up to marketing and maintenance. Their young, dynamic team was fundamental in allowing us to reach our objectives.??
